Showing Some Skin. How much is too much?

[This is an opinion piece - a reflection on some standards in the Fashion world. Please feel free to read if you are interested and tell me your opinions as well in the comments section]

Hello Fashion Followers,
I have been furiously writing school papers and haven't had the time to devote to updates. On a positive note, I am finishing my very last semester as an undergrad in 3 weeks. After the 15th of June, be ready for an update overload!

I wasn't planning on updating at all this week but I came across something I felt I just needed to talk about.

One of the very few cool things about being a woman is that our figure and curves are very sexy and we have amazing clothes that can show that off. But then there is always the question of decency. How much skin is too much? One of the trends this year have been the 'slit' dress. I honestly think there is nothing sexier than a slit dress from the floor to the thigh, on one side. The slit has to stop, though at a specific point, or else people might get a view of your 'peek-a-boo.' There is a very fine line between sexy and slutty, and I think its something women should pay attention to. I believe that not showing too much is sexier than having it all hang out. If you want to show your cleavage, with the new push up bra you got, than balance it out with a longer, curve hugging dress to the knee. If you wear a mini dress that shows a little bit of butt cheek AND have your cleavage all hang out, know that this is not attractive. Unless you expect men to treat you like a piece of meat. If you dig that sort of thing than don't question why men don't respect you. Sorry for being a little harsh today...Maybe it is the weather. But sometimes we got to face the truth ladies. It doesn't matter how skinny you are and if you can 'pull it off' or not. It is about sexiness, classiness, and self-respect. Those qualities are truly attractive.

Slightly getting off topic here. But what I really wanted to bring to people's attention is how pathetic it is that the fashion industry still promote sickly skinny models as the face of absolute beauty and chicness. I know a lot of people in this business may have come to accept the fact it's just the way it is, but I will continue to disagree and voice my opinion. Because, while they are being shallow to sell products and getting millions, they are creating false realities and insecurities for women everywhere. Not to mention the deep psychological problems that models face daily with keeping their weight down, like getting into drugs and developing anorexia in order to keep up with these requirements.

Honest opinions now, which celebrity looks better?

***Side note: I love turquoise/aqua and coral together! What a great color combo for summer***

I will leave you with that thought. I don't think I need to elaborate on this topic any more...
I did not want to make my blog a place where I bash trends and people because beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it is important to be objective. It is not my intention to be critical of anyone. But, again maybe it is the terrible rainy weather today that has made me angry when I saw that first picture. And the sad part is - f.designers would say the first model looks fantastic!

Forget the obvious for a second - that her pelvis bone is 100% visible and popping out, what about how high the slit on that dress is that you can see she is not even wearing underwear! EW. I am sorry but I don't find these extremely thin models sexy. It worries me. We all have our opinions. I personally look up to women like J.Lo, Kim K and her sisters, Beyonce, and Rihanna, all women who are not thin by any standards but they are all beautiful. Other people may argue and say that they are too fat. Well I think everything in life should be in moderation. That is the best way to go. Finding the middle ground between two extremes is where logic lies.

Speaking of Jennifer Lopez...I JUST LOVE THIS ENTIRE LOOK!

I am interested in hearing your opinions on today's post. If you liked it or not. If I should just stick with fashion posts and lots of pictures and no talking? If you enjoyed it, maybe I will have opinion updates from time to time. Change it up a little, you know?

Until next time, ~Happy Shopping

The Marlboro Men

When I see men in denim I think of cowboys. Yum. :-)
Denim is thriving this year. We started to see this trend slowly coming back into play last year. Now, wearing denim seems inescapable. Well, it's obvious why this craze has an extreme popularity...It is because everyone can wear denim. It's not a trend that looks good on some and not on others. Everyone can benefit from having the denim wave back in action. Guys and Girls of all ages and sizes can find some sort of denim button-up, jacket, or vest that can be worn with virtually everything. Another important plus of denim is that it's sooo comfortable. We can't forget denim jeans either. There is a reason why jeans never go out of style. Jean lengths and bottoms will change but the denim fabric is so versatile no wonder everyone loves it.

This post is dedicated to those trendy men and their denim. I've comprised a couple of pictures of celebs and street styles that encompass the true meaning of "working it" without over-doing it. These guys have managed to pull off the denim shirt and look damn good too!

Celeb Style
Kris Allen, Singer

*If anyone is keeping up with season eight's American Idol winner Kris Allen, he is promoting the release of his second studio album entitled, 'Thank you Camilla.' In almost every interview from the press junkets he is wearing some type of denim button-up or jacket. Either he is just a denim kind of guy, and he isn't meaning to be going along with the trend, or he has got one amazing stylist!
Kanye West, Rapper
*Kanye needs no introduction. His style speaks for itself. Maybe other men won't be so willing to expierement with their style like this celebrity, but without a doubt his green pants, open denim button-up, and white keds are fresh to death. It's also a cute coincidence that Kanye's new lady-friend Kim Kardashian is also a style icon and one of my absolute favorite celebrity inspirations!

David Beckham, Athlete
(click for larger images)
*Davie boy gets two pictures just because he is super hot, super stylish and I couldn't decide which one I liked better. On the left, Beckham is sporting the modern/urban denim look with rolled sleeves, undershirt, and a beanie. On the right he is channeling the 'vintage' look. Either way he wears his denim there are no complaints from me! I wonder if his wife dresses him? :-) Because that is definitely something I would do.

Street Style

Giorgos Karapetis, Fashion Student
*I am honored to feature one of my good friends on my blog today. I've been meaning to showcase his style for awhile, and I thought this would be the perfect post to do it. Honestly his fashion sense is unparalleled to others, and I applaud and envy his ability at the same time. You will probably see more of him on this blog because he truly has a talent and great eye for fashion. I also want to wish him the best of luck for his aspiring dream to become a fashion designer one day. He has all my support! Besides Giorgos' awesome denim look, can I just say how cool this picture is with the train tracks behind him?

George Roussos, My lover Boy :-)
*Ok, so you know when I mentioned above about David Beckham's wife probably dressing him, and that's what I would do.....Well, that IS what I do. lol. As you can see, the security tag and tickets are still on the jacket because he was in a dressing room when I snapped a quick pic without him realizing it. I immediately made him buy it. If he trusts my instincts, then hopefully he will wear it someday. I think he fits right in with celeb style! But that could just be me doting...

I would like to conclude that denim is freaking HOT! For girls, for guys, for everyone! I left it out of my last post because it needs a close-up on its own. I recommend to anyone that likes this trend to go out and buy a good quality denim jacket or button up. But be careful not to over-do it. Some people may be able to pull off denim on denim. A darker color denim with a lighter color on top. I personally do not like that look, and would never try to pull it off.

As a farewell warning boys and girls, just try to never look like this:

I know...Scary. (Britney's face is freaking gorgeous though!!!)

Spring Trend MEGAPOST - part I

Hello Fashion Followers,
I know a couple of weeks ago I did a fashion forecast post about what I think the spring and summer trends are going to be. This is a follow-up post about what is in the stores RIGHT NOW so if you are out shopping and want some tips about what colors and trends are 'in' then keep reading! :-)
It's going to be a MEGAPOST of all the great styles out this season. In the comments box feel free to tell me your opinions on what trends you like the best! First we will touch on specific STYLES and cuts that are in, then I will show you the dominate COLORS of spring, so if you aren't a fan of some of the styles, you can still get away with being 'in' this spring with the color schemes that are popular.

TIP 1: All of these trends can be mixed and matched! Denim vests and shirts go with leatherette leggings, that is really 'in' this season. OR you will see cold-shoulder dresses with embellishments and printed graphics. If you are lucky to find any such pieces you have got the look! There is nothing better than incorporating multiple trends in just one item or outfit!

Spring Styles 2012
THE COLD SHOULDER and EMBELLISHED COLLARS
I put two trends under one category because you can mix the two into one look. You can find each trend separately of course, but for the sake of time and space both of these trends may be seen together.

TIP 2: Embellishing your chiffon or denim collar shirts is a simple and easy D.I.Y project! Most likely your local craft store will have studs and jewels where you can bedazzle your shirts any way your heart desires! It also makes any ordinary shirt a one-of-a-kind item!
TIP 3: Any button down blouse that can be tied in the middle, which is also a trend this spring! Instead of making a separate post - you can put all three trends together! I couldn't find a picture with a cold-shoulder tie front studded neck collar shirt....(wow, that's a mouthful), but that is where the creativity kicks in and you could imagine how you would decorate this plain white collar!

I know what some of you are thinking. What about DENIM? What about STUDS GALORE? What about cut-off FRINGE? Well, these three things I left out on purpose because they are such huge topics they need a completely separate post. So don't worry more trend updates are coming soon.

This spring there are A LOT of different styles to choose from. Luckily for those who absolutely don't like one trend still has so many other options that still look great. This post was a lot longer than I even expected so I am going to split the styles with the colors into two different posts. Colors of Spring will be up next. Also this week we have 'Celeb style for Le$$' and a 'Celeb style showcase'...Maybe a wishlist too, since I haven't done that in over a  year!

Until next time loveys, ~Happy Shopping!

Fashion Forecast: Summer Colors of 2012

    Hello Fashion Followers,
I wanted to write down some predictions I have - What I expect we will predominately be seeing this summer on the beach!

I think there is going to be color blocking specifically with the colors: Orange and Purple, jewel tones, with accents of gold. That color block combo started making its way in fashion in October and it will probably pick up again this summer.

Another classic color block that never fails is Black and White. A classy and sophisticated combination no matter what. Buying anything black and white will be more timeless than other colors that go in and out, so it is really worth the purchase.  Blue jewel tones will probably be added as well to accentuate the black and white.
These Jewel Tones

Aztec prints are not really my prediction. Meaning, I can’t claim this prediction to be own, Since Aztec is already out right now. It is ‘the IT’ print that has been really popular this year. I just wanted to comment that we will probably be seeing this trend stretch out well into the summer collections; on bathing suits, jewelry, tank tops etc…

More pictures coming soon...keep posted for the updated version!

Summer 2012 At-a-Glance
  • Orange, Purple and Gold.
  • Black, White, Blue, and Silver
  • Lighter Pink and Crème
  • Hot Pink and Turquoise
  • Anything Aztec!
____________________________________________________________________

And there you have it - my predictions. I am not claiming this to be fact, I could be wrong but let’s see what the summer shall bring. In a few months I’ll make a follow-up post to see if any of these trends fell through.

I should have made a spring trend update first, but that isn't a forecast post because the spring trends are already out. I will make sure to post spring colors too! I'll give you hint: "Don't let the color of jealousy get to you..."

STILL IN STYLE – Trends we Adore

     Hello my Beautiful Fashion Followers,

There are a lot of trends out right now that are absolutely darling. And since the fashion world is constantly changing – you can think you are buying something that is ‘in’ little did you know it was totally ‘out’ a week ago.Good thing some trends stick around longer than others and we can have more time to enjoy them. In this post I wanted to address those trends that are still going strong, so we can all wipe our foreheads and say “PHEEEWWW because I was not ready to throw that out!”

-Anything Leopard Print
I think Leopard print is timeless and should never go out of style. If I remember correctly Leopard started coming back into fashion about two years ago. And every year since, there is more and more things leopard to choose from. Leopard is now going on its third strong year of being a top trend – so we don’t have to worry about this print leaving us anytime soon. Yay!

-Mesh Fabric
Mesh is one of those things that you either love it or hate it. I remember about a year ago mesh started to show up on the fashion scene on black dresses with black mesh sleeves. I thought, “Oh my god I better hurry up and buy this trend before the stores stop carrying it.” Luckily, mesh has taken off as a top trend and you can find mesh in everything, not just dress sleeves. The new thing is mesh skirts. Instead of a ‘cut-out’ they replace that see through spot with the mesh fabric.
I don’t think mesh is going to last as long as Leopard though, I see retirement soon, so if you love this trend keep wearing your mesh items to really get use out of them!

-Body Con Dresses
One of my favorite trends of ALL TIME is the body contour fabric dresses. I seriously hope this fashion-trend NEVER goes away because it is God’s gift to unsightly lumps. Finally, a dress specifically made to look better on heavier girls, than on those stick skinny model bodies. The body con dress celebrates curvy bodies and it is designed to fit just right; to accentuate what you what, and hide what you don’t.

Francia Raisa
Khloe and Kim - Goddesses
The longer girls keep rocking this style and refuse to throw them in the back of their closets, designers will also continue to find new styles to keep incorporating this wonderful fabric.
Keep the body con alive ladies!

-Color block
Color blocking was made popular in the 80’s, and I am sure my sisters could tell you how much they LOVED this style back then, and how much they love that it’s back again now!
This is a hard trend to pull off if you are not famous, because it could come off as looking too gaudy or not matching at all. In order to avoid this, find a shirt or dress already with the color block style on it, and you can dress up the rest of your outfit according to the colors already given to you. Color blocking is a fun trend because we finally can mix and match weird colors and oddly enough make it look good. I don’t really know how much longer this trend will last but I think we will definitely still be seeing it in 2012 Summer collections.

TREND ALERT - Galaxy Print

Hello Fashion Followers,

Galaxy Print has started taking the fashion world by storm. First we saw it as legging prints, but now fashion designers have taken the Galaxy Print to a whole new level.

The galaxy trend goes well with the grunge, rocker look. I have seen a lot of models wear doc martins with their dress or leggings, along with a leather coat or oversized ripped shirt. If you think this is the style for you, now is the time to go and buy because this trend is really in right now.

I could maybe see myself wearing a galaxy print dress or leggings. It’s a hard trend to get used to, but if it sticks around long enough it will probably catch on more. What do you all think? Would you wear anything from the Galaxy Print family?

Until next time, ~Happy Shopping

Fall Fashion Trend Report

Good evening fashion addicts
I guess you can say fall fashion is in full swing because trend reports having been coming out like crazy. And that means... summer is officially over! WAH :-(
I had a couple of summer outfit pictures I was planning on posting, but I've been procrastinating. Now I think it is too late and rather pointless. I feel it would ruin the flow of my fashion reporting. Even if the outfits were extremely cute, it would look bad on my timing skills.

So let's jump right into the new material, shall we?

Fashion magazines everywhere are putting out their take on this fall's fashion trends. There are so many great looks I have come across that I want to post - but I have been known to be quite a ranter, so i'm trying to keep my blog as simple and clear-cut as possible and not rear too far from the topic. (i.e as I am already kind of doing here...)
I think these are the MOST IMPORTANT PIECES  that people should be shopping for this fall!!!

Click for Larger Image.
Click for Larger Image.

There are soOoOo many different trends this fall that I was going to makes collages on each specific trend (like I already did for the 'sequin' picture) but, all the trends were used with each other that I thought an overall picture using all the trends at once gives a better idea!

I am REALLY excited about these 'new' but 'old' styles! I can't wait to start putting outfits together! Hopefully sooner than later - I will be getting pictures up of how I worked with these trends in my everyday life!

Until next time, HAPPY SHOPPING!
